The session experience

What an afternoon with us actually feels like.

Every session starts on the same working paddock in Clinton, Montana — real cattle, real pasture, sometimes the herd closing in slow. We move at the family’s pace, not a checklist; nobody is asked to smile on cue, nobody’s tugging at a shirt collar, and the bull just — mostly — minds his own business. The portraits that come out of it look the way an afternoon back here actually felt, and the notes below are the families telling that part in their own words.

We brought both kids, two dogs, and my mother-in-law, who is famously hard to photograph. Nobody got asked to smile. Nobody faked anything. The pictures look like a real afternoon on the farm, which is exactly what we wanted.

We’ve been engaged a year and still didn’t have a picture we liked. One evening at golden hour and now we do. The cottonwoods, the long shadows, her hand on my shoulder — all of it is in one frame.

Couple session

Jules & Maya

Jen scouted the proposal spot with us a week ahead and was in position before we walked up. She sent the YES portraits back the next morning. My parents framed one for the entry hall the same week.

Engagement session

I needed a portrait set for a brand re-launch and the ordinary studio felt wrong. The pasture gave me something I couldn’t have staged myself — long shadows, the herd in the soft-focus background, and no two frames alike.
